The Parental responsibilities involved in separation
One of the challenges of separation is to ensure the needs of your child or children are being met. Sometimes as couples try to resolve their differences they can forget the needs of their children. In the worst cases, children can be used as a tool by one or both parents to gain a sense of control or advantage in the separation process. Generally, children with two involved parents do better than those who do not. The challenge for you is how to sustain and continue the job of being mum or dad whilst letting go of being a partner/spouse.
Your primary task should be to prevent your child suffering any emotional harm by not exposing them to conflict, and to ensure that their voice and experience is considered throughout the process.
